Mordialloc Dance Studio

Welcome to the Mordialloc Dance Studio! We run classes in all styles of dance, for all ages and offer fun and structured dance classes at affordable prices. At the Mordialloc Community Centre we have an all-inclusive policy and pride ourselves on offering dance classes to all members of our community.

The dance program at MCC has been running for over 40 years and is a very popular choice amongst our community. Currently we are one of the largest dance schools in Melbourne with over 550 students and 7 teaching staff. Our studio is a great place to develop skills and make friends, and offers students the opportunity to dance at a level suitable to them, whether that be to pursue a career in dance, or to dance for fun and fitness.

OUR TEACHERS:

Our Dance Co-Ordinator and Lead Teacher at the Mordialloc Community Centre is Jess Cogley. Jess began training in jazz and tap at the age of 9, and eventually picked up all other styles throughout her teenage years. From the age of 15, she was partaking in classes both locally in the bayside area, and at inner city studios. Jess obtained her Certificate 3 in Performing Arts (Dance) at DanceWorld Studios, graduating in2010, before beginning her full time dance training at Patrick Studios Australia in the Professional Development Course in Performing Art (Dance). Through this course, she trained extensively in jazz, commercial, contemporary, hip hop, lyrical, musical theatre, tap as well as singing and acting training; learning from some of the best teachers and choreographers in Melbourne. Jess has performed at many corporate and charity events around Melbourne, gained experience in dance in television and has competed throughout Australia. Jess has been working at Mordialloc Dance Studio for the past seven years, along with teaching at many other bayside dance schools. She is super excited to be taking on the dance coordinator role, as well as continuing to teach at MDS in 2017.

Our dance school offers a very talented, exciting and energetic team of teachers who have trained professionally as dancers and as teachers. All of our teachers share a love of dance and teaching and strive to provide high quality classes in a fun and friendly environment. Our teachers are; Jess Cogley, Nicole Kelly, Emma Green,Sophie Sheppard, Simone Woolley.

We also have an enthusiastic team of assistant teachers helping in our beginner classes. These assistants are students of ours who are now able to learn the skills of teaching dance from their senior teacher. Our assistant teachers this year are; Hannah Harvison, Eliza Anderson, Orla Millerd, Tamika Sheehan, Tahlia Cengia, Lucy Andrew and Abby Geleit.

This is a beautiful space equipped with a sprung floor and mirrors.

UNIFORM:

All students are required to wear correct and complete studio uniform to every class. This includes correct footwear. Well fitted and supportive dance shoes are extremely important for all dancers and should be purchased from a reputable dance wear shop. For all uniform requirements please see our dance handbook below.

DANCE CONCERT:
Our dance concerts are the highlight of our year for students and teachers. The concerts are a lot of fun and a fantastic experience for students as they develop performance skills, gain confidence and learn to work as a team with their class members. All students are included in the dance concert and love their time on the stage. Our concerts are held in December every year at Parkdale Secondary College.

Mordialloc Dance Studio for Adults

We offer classes for adults in Jazz and tap. These classes cater to beginners and experienced dancers and our teachers work hard to challenge all participants. These classes are a great way to make new friends and to improve fitness and coordination.

Our adult classes are given the opportunity to dance in our annual concert and all our participants thoroughly enjoy this experience. Performance in the concert is not compulsory.

There is no set uniform for our adults so participants can wear whatever they feel most comfortable in. Dancing shoes are optional but tap shoes are necessary for Adult Tap.
